Q. How do I browse the site?
You can navigate round the site by clicking on words or images.
From the home page, there are 4 chapters of images: gliding; clouds and landscapes; birds; and other airsports. In each chapter are a number of images.
You can change the number of images on display on your screen by using the ‘media per page’ setting on the bottom right of the page (you may have to use your scroll bar to scroll down the page). You can change the page of the chapter of images you are looking at by using the numbers or arrows at the top and bottom of the page, on the right-hand side.
If you click on an image you see a bigger version of it and some information about the image. There are also several options you can choose. These include ‘send to a friend’ and ‘see it framed’. This option takes you to another screen where you will see the image framed. You can change the frame by using the drop-down menu above the framed image.
There is a 5th chapter, ‘photographers’. This can be reached by clicking ‘photographers’ on the top right or by following the breadcrumb trail of words and arrows on the top left. (Click on ‘prints’)
Important (but not necessarily exciting) information such as ‘Terms and Conditions’ can be found by clicking the words at the bottom of the page.
Words on the top right of the page let you use tools for selecting prints and for purchasing them
Have a play and if you get stuck, hit ‘Home’ and try again. If you get really stuck, contact us or email us at info@glidingimages.com
Q. How do I use the lightbox?
The lightbox is a feature that allows you to narrow your search for an image.
As you browse through the pages of images, when you see one you would like to look at in more detail, click the ‘lightbox add/remove’ button below the image and continue to browse the rest of the images.
When you are ready to view the images on the lightbox, click ‘lightbox’ on the top right of the screen.
Q. How do I purchase an image?
When you have made your decision, click on the image (if you haven’t already done so) so that you can see only that image and the information about it. Below the image, you will see tick boxes by the product type (A4 or A3). Click one then click ‘Add to basket’ button.
You will then be taken through to the page showing your basket. You can delete an item by using the red cross on the right-hand side, or increase the quantity by changing the number then clicking the green arrow.
When you are happy, click the red ‘proceed the checkout’ button. At this stage you will be asked to log in to your account. Once you have done that, then follow the links to PayPal and enter your payment card details. Once payment has been received, your goods will be prepared and dispatched to you.
Q. Can I buy an image for commercial usage?
Yes. We don't currently have this part of the website available, so please contact us with your requirements.
Q. Once I've bought an image, can I copy it or re-use it?
No. Prints are for personal use only and must not be copied. Stock images must only be used for the precise purpose for which they were purchased.
Q. Are the images on the website the only ones available?
No! For the print section we have selected only the best images that you would want to give pride of place on your wall. There will be a stock image section on the website in the future. The White Planes picture co. library alone has over 20,000 images and our other photographers will have many other images available. If you can't find the image you are looking for, just contact us!
Q. Can you frame it for me?
Yes! The frames we use are made to order by a specialist framing company. Our frames do not contain glass, but a form of acrylic that is lighter, shouldn’t break in transit, yet looks just as good as glass.
We have a selection of 10 frames on the site. If you don’t see anything you like, we have access to over a hundred different frame mouldings and mounts, so contact us and we’ll see what we can do for you.
Please contact us if you would prefer to have your image framed without a mount. Ordering a variation from what is displayed on the site is likely to cause a variation in the price we charge – depending on what you choose.
If you can’t find what you want from us, then purchase the print and take it to a local specialist framer (or to your local stationers who can supply basic, off the peg frames).
Q. What quality are the frames?
Our frames have been sourced from a specialist frame supplier who is a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild. The frames are handcrafted to the highest of standards. Our frames do not contain glass, but a form of acrylic that is lighter, shouldn’t break in transit, yet looks just as good as glass. Mounts are computer cut to size, with a bevel on the inner pane.
Q. How do I order a framed print?
When you are on the page showing just the image and the information, you will need to click the ‘See it framed’ button below the image. Once on the next page, you will need to select your frame and mount using the drop down menu above the framed image.
When you are happy with your selection, click the product box below the image before clicking the ‘add to basket’ image. The rest of the process is the same as for ordering prints.
Q. Do you sell framed canvas prints?
We're currently investigating suppliers. We hope to have something set up in the very near future. In the meantime, if you wish to have a canvas print, please contact us.
Q. I’m from overseas, can I order from your site?
Yes! The postage rates will differ, but we can mail overseas. Please email us to discuss your requirements.
Q. How to I get an account?
You need to reach a page that asks you to log in. When you follow the transaction pathway you get taken to this page. To go straight to the page, click ‘My account’ on the top right of the screen.
Click ‘New Customer? Please click here’ and enter your details as requested. You will need to read and agree to our ‘Terms and Conditions’ (found at the bottom of the page).
Q. You have access to the White Planes picture co. library - how so?
The White Planes picture co. library is the legacy left by Neil Stuart Lawson. His parents would like his work to live on. Pete often worked with Neil, and so was asked to keep the photo library running. We would like to thank Jean and Michael for making Neil's work available for us all to enjoy! You can view the White Planes website at www.whiteplanes.com.
Q. How our photographers benefit from your orders?
When you order an image from Gliding Images, commission is paid to our photographers.
When you order any of Neil Stuart Lawson’s images, the commission is currently donated to The Caroline Trust.
Q. I’ve taken some nice pics, how do I get them onto Gliding Images?
There is a link at the top right of the screen ‘Contact us’. Follow that the send an email to sales or simply email us at info@glidingimages.com
We’ve got some information and some terms and conditions that you should read, so we’ll email those to you. If you still like the look of it, then submit some images for us to look at and we’ll take it from there.
Q. Who owns the copyright of the images?
